Leather jackets are the perfect throw-on and go item. Some people are intimidated by their “biker chic” vibe, however I feel the complete opposite. You can find a leather jacket that works for you depending on the color and the shape of it. They are appropriate for practically anyone’s style. Whether your style is biker, frilly and sweet, or boho, a leather jacket always accomadates an outfit. They make a pair of jeans and a t-shirt look effortlessly chic, while dressing down a vintage coctail dress–what could be better? Wearing your jacket to school is great, along with wearing it to dinner with your friends…it just always works! I have a brown Andrew Marc leather jacket that my mom bought at the end of last season that I absolutely adore (it smells delightful too); I am trying to get one more wear out of it before it becomes consistently too cold here in Baltimore. Leather jackets are not just for the bad boys, like Danny Zucko from Grease, but instead can fit everyone’s taste, personality, and style. You just have to look and find one that is right for you!

I spotted some of the designs of Brevity jewelry collection and haven’t yet stopped yearning to own one. I’m obsessed with the unique, innovative shapes and the clean lines of the pieces. I’ve never seen anything like them, for the combination of the clock hand theme and the gleaming silver metal strikes a balance between classic and edgy, which is often difficult to successfully render. My favorite part? They’re hidden treasures that not everyone has had the good fortune to discover (I have a thing for exclusivity). My mother hasn’t a clue of what to buy me for Christmas, so with some tactful hints, I may be wearing one of these necklaces before long.
In the last few years, leggings have gone from exercise pants to an outfit basic. Although it is still under deliberation whether these tight spandex pants can be considered full-on bottoms, it has not stopped people from replacing them from their normal jeans. There are currently a myriad of styles of leggings in current trends, including, metallic, leather, and patterned, but there is now a new legging on the market, the legging jean. Because I refuse to wear sweatpants for fear of looking like a shlump, but I want to be comfortable, I have resorted to legging jeans. Legging jeans have the same spandex feel as leggings but contain the details of jeans including pockets, rivets, and belt loops. They can be worn as full-blown jeans or as leggings under a dress. The material is usually a little bit thicker than regular leggings so it is more acceptable and non-athletic looking to wear them as pants. Legging jeans are most popular in their normal black color, but now they are being made in all sorts of colors, patterns and styles included look-a-like jean colors and with stirrups on the bottom. Leans, as my friend Sally calls them, are the perfect way to be comfortable and respectable, so pick up your pair today(especially in my school where we can’t wear real leggings!)
I have a soft spot for the simple v-neck tees, but sometimes, I know I need to kick it up a notch. How to make this happen? Embellished tees! I’m not talking about the ones from J. Crew, with oversized flowers and soft pastels, but details with more of an edge. Give me minuscule rhinestones for discreet shine and stud detailing to toughen up the look. Use a wary eye when navigating the options; the embellishments should be tasteful, subtle, and unexpected. Pair it with skinny jeans (as I seem to do with just about everything) and boots, and you’re good to go.
I feel like I’m always reverting to my childhood but those were the good old days with ballet, cartoons, no homework or responsibilities and tons and tons of times to dress-up on a daily basis. That’s the most exciting–whether it’s dressing up in your mother or grandmother’s high heals and gold bangles or in a cape and princess dress from the costume box. Although you can hide in your room and play your own dress up (which is what I do), now a day, Halloween is one holiday where it is completely acceptable to go outside and dress up! I didn’t really care about where I went in my costume; I just wanted to put one on. It is very easy to look very risqué in a costume by wearing one of those tight short costumes in a bag costumes but my friends and me try to be a little more creative. After nixing a Betty Boop idea, I decided that I was going to be anything I could be to wear a tutu so I became a cupcake. I wore a hot pink petticoat with sprinkles made out of big pink stickers, a white leotard, red patent leather stilettos and a headband with a paper flame sticking out of it. It was a mixture of cute and creativity. My friends were also very original: we had an amazing Pebbles and Bam Bam duo, from the Flintstones, who decorated their own outfits with the Flintstones pattern in sharpie; a Gene Simmons look-a-like who wore the complete face paint; a turtle who turned a circle sled into a shell with spray paint and a Mario and Luigi team who were complete with mustaches and overalls. Although it might not be acceptable to dress-up year round, even though I think it should be, try getting inspired by different icons or costumes to update your look!
