As the weather waivers and is deciding where it is going to settle, I’m already getting my hats out. Not that I need a weather excuse to take them out. I have always been a fan of hats as an all-day accessory piece. I would never do a baseball cap but in my years I have experimented with many kinds of hats. In middle school I did the newsboy hat in tweed and cotton, in high school I have tried the fedora and the beanie but fell in love with the knitted beret. My mother and grandmother have both knitted me many berets in assorted colors and patterns that I wear with my hair down to add a little urban funk to my outfit. Hats are the ultimate statement pieces because people notice your head/face automatically when they see you. I understand that people use excuses to stray from hats because they claim they look bad in them but there are so many options of hats out there is bound to be a style for everyone. Even if the weather hasn’t decided what temperature it wants to be yet, you should all start to get your hats out today!

Confession: I have been listening to Christmas music since mid-October. My favorite thing about Christmas? Getting presents (was this very hard to guess?). My least favorite thing about Christmas? Giving presents. It’s not that I’m stingy (well…) but when it comes to choosing and/or wrapping gifts for my immediate family members, I am truly awful. Horrific, even. Which is why, this year, I’m going to compensate for my pathetic taste in gifts by pairing them with the most adorable cards I’ve ever seen. They’re not technically Christmas cards, but Christmas is the only reason I’d pay to have greeting cards shipped from England. The card is an oversized button, and one side of it reads ‘You’re as cute as a button.” Who wouldn’t want to receive comparisons to their general cuteness for Christmas, Hannukah, or any occasion? I spotted some of the designs of Brevity jewelry collection and haven’t yet stopped yearning to own one. I’m obsessed with the unique, innovative shapes and the clean lines of the pieces. I’ve never seen anything like them, for the combination of the clock hand theme and the gleaming silver metal strikes a balance between classic and edgy, which is often difficult to successfully render. My favorite part? They’re hidden treasures that not everyone has had the good fortune to discover (I have a thing for exclusivity). My mother hasn’t a clue of what to buy me for Christmas, so with some tactful hints, I may be wearing one of these necklaces before long.
Here in Baltimore, staying warm is a must–and trying to accomplish that while being fashionable is not always easy. Dresses are large part of my wardrobe, and for me, winter is one of the best times to rock the underestimated mini dress. How to “rock the mini dress” you may wonder? Well, this winter I am striving to wear more and more colored and printed tights with my dresses (they keep you warm and make a statement). Colored tights give your outfit more dimensions and are inevitably eye-catching. If bold colors are too much, black printed tights are the way to go. They always look posh…and everyone will be wondering where you bought those gorgeous netted tights. So, leave those monotonous plain black tights to the side once in a while, and throw on a pair of purple ones. You will stand out and look like pure SNAZ!
